While El Salvador is definitely more geared toward surfing trips, the
nightlife has begun to pick up, too. The hottest area is at
Playa El Tunco on the beach in front of the Sunzal point. The local
restaurants often have the best scene where locals and visitors
mix together to enjoy the evening. For more action, there are plenty
of places in nearby San Salvador (45-minute drive) to dance and
to go to bars.
Bar la Guitarra
Surfing in El Salvador wouldn't be complete without eating at Restaurante
Erika's, located in Playa El Tunco in front of the beach and across
from Sunzal Surf Shop. Local owner Amelia Hernandez and her family
offer affordable, delicious seafood and breakfast and lunch. Don't
leave without trying the stuffed fish and the cream-based Mariscada
(lobster-crab-shrimp soup). Also, the Filete a la Plancha is a
classic!
Roots Bar
Roots Bar and campground takes you back to the basics with a very mellow oceanfront bar.
Light music and a mixed group of travelers and locals creates an easygoing
scene.
Los Tres Diablos
Los Tres Diablos bar in San Salvador owned by French ex-pat "Pierre" is
a surfer's favorite in San Salvador and a must if you make a trip
up to the city. The newest location for Los Tres Diablos opened
in the spring of 2007 in Playa El Tunco.
